For my homework in Digital Media II, I was suppose to take a picture and put words behind it. We learned how to do it in class using Adobe Photoshop, but I didn’t have photoshop at home. So for like ten minutes I searched for an app that could do that same thing. And then a friend told me about Photoshop Mix. This caught my attention more than other apps, because it had Photoshop in the title, but in the description it said that it would work for something like this. None of the other apps talked about it doing things like this.
Photoshop Mix was a very important app to find and figure out how to use, since I will be using it for the entire month for my homework. It is hard to get used to because it is a mini version of Photoshop, but it doesn’t have all of the features. At first, I struggled to figure out how to use it to fit my homework. To learn how to use it, I started messing around and doing a few tutorials. This week was the third time I had used it and I still needed the tutorial because I forgot how to use the auto select. I went to the Adobe Photoshop Mix FAQ to see if some of the most asked questions were mine and found out something very interesting. Photoshop Mix has a shake reduction feature that can fix an image if the camera moved when it was taken. I also learned that you can synchronize projects on Photoshop with Photoshop Mix using the CC or Creative Cloud. So now I don’t need Photoshop to do things, and can always work on things at home. And I can also make pretty pictures better.

Before the pre-production, I did three flash tutorials to learn how to use Adobe Flash. You can see them here. My pre-production started with brainstorming an idea over the weekend and then researching animations and storyboards in class. I looked up ten second animations to get an idea of what to do. I already had an idea in mind, but wasn't sure. Then I researched storyboards and did mine over the weekend. I made a storyboard with ten frames, each frame represents a second. Under each frame, I would give a short description about what was going on in each. Production was a little harder, but expected. I had tried to make this before and I failed miserably. But never give up! I made the animation in Photoshop. I used my storyboard to make the layers. When I was done, I converted them to frames and made my timeline. Animation complete. Production wasn't the longest stage as predicted. After the animation was made, I had to revise it. I had a problem with the length and the frames. When I first converted the layers to frames, they only had one half of the heart appearing. So, I had to find and turn on the correct layer for that frame. I ended up making a copy of the PSD and trying something different. Instead of all layers inside of the groups, which weren't helpful, I merged the layers in the groups. That made it a lot easier. 10 Second heart animationWhat is digital media? Digital media is any online media. It consists of five elements: web design, graphic design, audio, animation, and video. The five elements are used for different purposes. The four purposes are: commercial, entertainment, education, and informational. Commercial digital media would be advertisements and commercials. An example of this element is Chick-fil-a’s “eat mor chikin” billboard. The billboard is used for commercial purposes to persuade people to eat more chiken. Educational and informational digital media could be an infographic, blog post, or a how-to video. Animation and video are just two examples of how you could use digital media to entertain people. Before creating a piece of digital media, you should go through the three stages of production. Do you know the three stages of production? They are pre-production, production, and post-production. Pre-production consists of the steps before actually making your product. It is as simple as brainstorming, researching, and sketching your ideas or concepts. After you have passed through the pre-production stage and have an concept, you enter the production stage. The production stage is simple and might take the longest. This is where you actually make your idea. Once you have made the concept or idea, you enter the post-production stage. That is where you fine tune your concept into something better and then publish it. For a graphic design, you would get someone to give you feedback on the design. Then, you would take their feedback and edit your design. Once, you have edited the design and you think that it is ready for the world to see, you would publish it to your portfolio. Above this paragraph is a checklist that I made to show the three stages.
